NiN @ DTE

Saw Nine Inch Nails with Tim and Eric Sunday. Awesome show. They have the best live set/light show I’ve ever seen. A cage grate is lowered over the lip of the stage, and images are projected onto it. Behind them, their jumbo-screen also has imagery. This creates this cube environment that they are in the middle of, and opens all kinds of cool options for them. They projected a lot of textures and color waves, but it was how they tied it to their sound that really got me. It’s really worth seeing. All in all, a great show. Heard a bunch of my favorite NiN songs: “Closer,” “Into the Void,” “Ruiner,” Head Like a Hole,” “The Wretched,” etc. Unfortunattly, they did not do this:

This just proved to me how much I need to see Tool live. Before the concert, and throughout opening band peaches, we sat in the car and had a private Tool concert. On a final note there was no lack of bizarro people pestering us with their various requirements.

Futurama is GO + aScannerDarkly

Posted by Alex on June 25th, 2006 in Required Reading, Sweet

I just found this out.

Comedy Central revives Futurama with 13 new episodes in 2008.

Awesome. Why this didn’t happen 3 years ago is a mystery to me. Futurama is a way better show than a lot of people give it credit for. I’m wondering if the new episodes will be as different from the originals as the new episodes of Family Guy. I’m also glad  that its out from the claw of Fox. I don’t like Fox.

[edit: Futurama is not free. I’ve been lying to myself.]
_ _ _

I’m also getting very excited about A Scanner Darkly. Adapted from Philip K. Dick’s (BladeRunner) novel, directed by Richard Linklater (Waking Life, Dazed and Confused).

“A Scanner Darkly” is set in suburban Orange County, California in the future. It imagines a paranoid world in which it seems two of every 10 Americans has been hired by the government to spy on the other 8 — in the name of national security and drug enforcement. When one reluctant government recruit (Reeves) is ordered to start spying on his friends, he is launched on a journey into the absurd, where outsourced government contractors largely define the social construct, where identities and loyalties are impossible to decode, and where not even his girlfriend can be trusted. The film highlights the inconsistencies and ironic consequences of the war on drugs.[source]

To top this off, Radiohead has a song on the soundtrack… Fog. It gives an idea of what the new albums may sound like.

[edit: Fog is a b-side off of Amnesiac. Oops.]

This comes out in 2 weeks! I’m excited. Waking Life is one of my favorite movies, and is what originally got me interested in lucid dreaming. The rotoscoping techniques that Richard Linklater employs are competely awesome. And if you can’t follow his dialogue, you can just sit there and watch the pretty colors. It’s worthing watch both ways.

[Thank you adamriff for radiohead news.]

The Black T-shirt.

The Black T-ShirtThe Black T-shirt is how we give the finger to The Man. It’s the fashion equivalent of not buying from Wall-mart. We wear the black t-shirt to remind The Man that government should always fear the populace that it represents (thank you V).

Right now, I have five black tshirts. Only three of them are worth wearing in my opinion. I think I’m going to buy a package containing no less than 5 additional shirts.
With this many shirts ‘under my belt,’ I’ll be ready for any amount of action I may find myself in.

In conclusion. There is nothing more badass than wearing a Black T-shirt. Wear one you stupid sheep. Follow me!

How is it that I haven’t heard of this?

SCIENTISTS have created a “miracle mouse” that can regenerate amputated limbs or badly damaged organs, making it able to recover from injuries that would kill or permanently disable normal animals.

The experimental animal is unique among mammals in its ability to regrow its heart, toes, joints and tail.

(…)The self-healing mice, from a strain known as MRL, were then subjected to a series of surgical procedures. In one the mice had their toes amputated — but the digits grew back, complete with joints.

In another test some of the tail was cut off but also regenerated. Then the researchers used a cryoprobe to freeze parts of the animals’ hearts, only to see these grow back again. A similar phenomenon was observed when the optic nerve was severed and the liver partially destroyed.

“When we injected foetal liver cells taken from those animals into ordinary mice, they too gained the power of regeneration. We found this persisted even six months after the injection.”

Wow. This was last September. I wonder how far this research has come since then.

15 Strikes

Posted by Alex on June 8th, 2006 in Rants

I have something to say to everyone but me who went to see The Omen at the Emagine in Novi, MI this past tuesday.

Shut up.

The entire theater was full of moronic, vapid gas station attendants in training. Worse yet, the only time they stopped talking about whatever the hell they were talking about is when somebody’s head got hacked off or something. Oh thanks, thanks for attending to the film at hand (that I payed 7 dollars for) only when the evil nanny gets splattered by a car (spoilers! ha!). It’s my fault in the first place. I went there. I payed 7 dollars. I waited in line for 15 minutes. I expected a relaxed pleasant evening spent enjoying an erstwhile, intrepid ambassador trying to stab an 8 year old (more spoilers! Ha ha!). I brought expectations to the table. I’m the one to blame.

Red leafWhat is it about the Emagine that attracts these preppy, pockets-stuffed-with-daddy’s-money scenesters so much? There’s another rant. The concept of a Scenester confounds me. How can the philosophy of a group/clique that such a great number of fools have joined up with be “There isn’t a scene here. I’m going to make one. Awesome. Now there’s a scene!!!” Wtf?!?!?

And its the newest big thing. These kids spend more time taking glam photos of themselves to post on their myspace accounts than I spend showering and eating AND evacuating. Not to say bodily maintenance (I hate maintenance) is more important than glamour shots. Actually that might be saying more about me than them. Doesn’t matter! I’m absolutely correct about this.

The girl sitting behind me had no idea what the quorum for the theater is. She kicked my seat throughout the entire movie, only stopping when she got scared by the admittably “spooky” cinimatic meanderings of The Omen. This didn’t distract from keeping a steady stream of inane banter throughout. My recreation:

OMG whtz up w/ that kidz eyes??? :0 That guys issooo ugly. EW. watz wif those guys hoods? are they sopposed to be kkk? hehe don’t go in there.I don’t get it. where are they??? Hey did you see what jessy did to her hair? omgLOL it sooooooooo funyn/ Wow that guyis stupid. ::girlish scream:: that kid is so creepy! Why does he look around like that all the time? Hey kelly, are you gonna have trouble sleeping tonight??? hahahALOL

All in a (very) poorly concealed (on)stage shout whisper. Her and her crew of 7 additional clones who were just as bad. I thought Tim was going to throw a punch. He had damn good reason to.

Oh. And the Omen sucked.

I’m working at an Doner, an advertising agency in Southfield, MI. They put me in charge of a $700,000 printer. See you soon in Rio.
Red leaf
Next to Doner runs northwestern highway. Throughout the day I can feel the entire building vibrating, like a giant magic fingers. It’s just a matter of time before my marrow dies and fillings fall out.

My job title is PrePress Associate Color Calibrator and Print Advisor. I’ve got a cubical and workstation. I don’t know if you know this or not, but I’m very important. I smell like mahogany.

I found some zen meditation balls. I’ve been sitting here roling them around in my hand, trying to keep them from making any noise. However, I can’t hear if they are silent or not, my headphone are on. Meditation hasn’t been working for me lately. I think I’ve just been too tired to do it with any regularity, and that’s important if your looking for results. I haven’t really transitioned yet from my normal sleep patterns to getting up at 6am. I don’t want to go to sleep at 11. 11 - 1pm is the only time I have. Time, energy and money. I’m completely broke of everything that has value, apparently.

Watch out Hannah, you could die.

I’m working on some alternative veiwing solutions for the gallery. Should be up soon.
